CAIRO: Egyptian security at the Cairo International Airport refused to grant entry to a French journalist and deported her on Saturday, saying her name was on the “banned from entering the country list.” A security source said the journalist had “insulted” Egypt in her articles and thus had her name on the list. The journalist, identified as Marie Edmee Josette Duboc, said she was held at the airport terminal soon after she arrived with her child from Paris on Friday evening when immigration officials told her that her name was on a list of individuals banned from entering Egypt. She was sent back Saturday and officials said she was treated with “respect” during her wait. Duboc had resided in Egypt for three years before doing research on the labor movement in Egypt. She wrote several articles documenting the labor movements rise since 2006 and had recently mentioned that the popular Egyptian uprising was fueled by labor injustice. It is unclear if one specific article got her in trouble. BM
