CAIRO: Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Egypt announced he is filing a police report against a crowd he accused of damaging cars that belonged to the embassy last Friday. Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Aziz al-Qatan says a group of people attempted to break into the embassy during the violence that erupted outside the Israeli embassy and burned a number of cars that were owned by the embassy. Qatan has filed another report against the 6 of April movement for accusing the embassy of using force and inciting the security forces to attack protesters. He said that the group tried to meet with officials inside the embassy to stand, but the ambassador refused to meet with the group. Qatan's statements came in an interview with an Egyptian satellite channel on Wednesday. The pro-change group had issued no official comments yet regarding the police report. The Egyptian General Prosecutor said he has added the Saudi embassy report to the entire case of last Friday's embassy debacle. Thousands had protested outside the Israeli embassy calling for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and to cut all diplomatic ties with the Jewish state before violence broke out and security forces attacked protesters with tear gas and rubber bullets leaving at least three dead and over 1,000 injured. Security forces chased the protesters down the streets of Giza, while a few protested outside the Saudi embassy which is located just a few blocks away from the Israeli embassy. Many activists and observers have accused Saudi Arabia of standing against the Arab spring uprisings in an attempt to protect its geopolitical interests in the region. BM
