CAIRO: Al Jazeera's Egypt offices have been stormed by Egyptian security forces on Sunday, producers and staff reported on Twitter. The move comes after Al Jazeera showed near constant live footage of the clashes between police and protesters at the Israeli Embassy in Egypt on Friday evening. An Al Jazeera International's producer in Cairo, Adam Makary, said via Twitter, “Security forces have stormed in the AJ Mubashir Masr office.” Bikyamasr.com could not independently confirm details of the alleged raid, but other Al Jazeera staff reported the incident on social media networks. Al Jazeera English correspondent Sherine Tadros said via Twitter, “Security forces still in AJA Mubashr Misr building but haven't confiscated equipment yet.” She added, “Feels like the old days.” Around 1:45pm, Makary tweeted, “We're leaving the building.” He later added, “Everyone ok.” According to Makary, the English language staff have left, but the Arabic staff was remaining on site and are currently discussing means of ending the raid and the security presence at its studios. It is not the first time Egyptian security have attempted to force Al Jazeera to shutdown. During the Mubarak regime, the network was barred from reporting in the country after Cairo did not approve of their coverage of events in the country. BM
