A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck the Indian capital on Wednesday morning. According to local reports, the quake, which struck at around 11 PM in the evening awoke much of the city and people began to stream out of their homes in order to assess the damage. There are no immediate reports of casualties, but government officials appear concerned that damage could be great. According to local residents in Delhi, a large aftershock was also felt shortly after 11:30 PM local time. People in many areas as well as in the neighbouring town of Faridabad in Haryana ran out of their homes as the furniture started shaking with a rattle. Several local television stations reported an earthquake hitting the capital and surrounding areas. No further details were immediately available. BM
