CAIRO: The Political Islam Coordination group announced a new program to support all Islamic nominees and offered to run their campaigns ahead of the expected November vote in Egypt. The coordination group also said they will play a mediating role between different political Islamic groups to ensure victory in elections. “We aim to galvanize the campaigns of those working in or belonging to political Islamic groups and to shed light on election campaigns,” said Ahmed Saher, the group's coordinator, in comments published by Egypt's state-run al-Ahram newspaper. Saher added that his group is aiming to communicate with all sides within the Islamic political spectrum and try to find a unified platform to achieve victory in both the parliamentary and presidential elections, yet keeping their individual identity. The proposed coalition, if affective, is likely to include political parties such as Asalah party, Eslah wa al tanmieah, al-Bena' wa al-Tanmenya, Masr al-Bena', al-Nour party and all Salafist parties competing in the upcoming elections later this year. Egypt's Ruling Supreme Council for Armed Forces (SCAF) announced this week that they are opening the door for nominees to register ahead of the elections late September. The Coalition also aims to establish a committee to coordinate the registration for each district to avoid over the cramping of Islamic candidates. They also plan to keep a database of all candidates and a start media center to promote the coalition's involved parties. BM
