CAIRO: Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Egypt Ahmed Abdul Aziz al-Qattan denied allegations that Riyadh was financing conservative Salafist groups in the country. He also said that the Gulf Kingdom was not withdrawing any investment in Egypt. “It is not in the nature of the Saudi leadership to take such rash decisions implied in these allegations, and there is nothing to be gained by spreading instability between the two countries or by driving wedges between the people of Egypt and Saudi Arabia,” Al-Qattan said in an interview with al-Arabiya news network. He argued that doing such would cause sectarianism in the North African country, adding that his government supports the stability of Egypt and hopes that Saudi Arabia can be instrumental on fostering such stability and a positive economic future. “According to these allegations, four billion Saudi Riyals were transferred into Egypt. This is not possible and these rumors are very dangerous to the relations between both countries,” Qattan said. BM
