The Indian government is looking to boost biotechnology experts in Africa and is now offering Nigerians a number of scholarships to develop their skills, a statement from the Indian government said. According to India's High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mahesh Sachdev, the scholarships will assist young Nigerians in getting a foot in the door in the biotechnology sector as the country continues to invest in its young population. India, Sachdev said, is hopeful that the new program will create more Nigerians skilled in biotechnology for the future. Sachdev also said that the South Asian country believed in Nigeria as a major economic partner, with some $56 million of investment coming into the African country's economy. On the new program, the High Commissioner said that India's offer of scholarships to Nigerians would see “8 fellowship scholarships in biotechnology and 130 slots in skill acquisition programs annually to interested Nigerian scholars.” BM
