Etisalat penned a new major agreement with the Spanish mega-carrier Telefonica, detailed in a press release from Telefonica. The release dubbed the agreement a “strategic partnership,” as the companies do not compete in any single market. Telefonica operates in 25 European and Latin American countries, while Etisalat does business in 25 African, Middle Eastern, and Asian markets. The deal should drive down costs as the two cooperate on “procurement, international capacity and wholesale services.” Telfonica's statement said the agreement will enable the two carriers to “improve efficiency, drive innovation and generate savings.” The agreement went into effect “immediately.” Etisalat also renewed a major deal with its Saudi Arabian affiliate Sunday, Reuters reported Sunday. Etisalat Egypt is the third largest mobile operator in Egypt. BM
