CAIRO: Activists have reported that over 300 people were injured in Saturday nights violence in the Abbassiya neighborhood. Many of the injured have been taken to Tahrir Square after reports of wounded being arrested at local hospitals on Saturday evening sparked concerns. Early Sunday morning, at least 231 people were confirmed injured after an unknown number of assailants attacked a march from Cairo's Tahrir Square to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) headquarters on Saturday night, the country's ministry of health confirmed. Some 39 people have been taken to local hospitals with more severe injuries. The violence erupted after a peaceful march through downtown Cairo of a few thousand arrived in the Abbassiya neighborhood of the Egyptian capital. Bikyamasr.com witnessed rock throwing and molotov cocktails being hurled in the direction of the protesters. Local television channels also showed footage of residents on nearby rooftops tossing rocks and large stones at the protesters below. The demonstrators' march to the SCAF headquarters was to continue their calls for greater reforms and an end to military rule of Egypt and to demand no more military trials for civilians.
