The Kenyan government has set up a fund of some $50,000 for web and mobile application developers to apply for the grants. According to the country's ministry of information and communications, the new fund in partnership with Kenya's ICT Board is currently accepting proposals for the Tandaa Digital Content Grant. “The grant is offered to Kenyan citizens and companies registered in Kenya for the development of innovative web or mobile phone applications. Grants of up to $50,000 for companies and $10,000 for individuals and teams will be offered through the program,” the Board said in a press release. Also available for established companies is a matching $150,000 grant. The aim of the grants is to help boost ICT innovation and creation in the country, which has been championed by the World Bank for its IT and telecom efforts in recent months. “For many companies that develop web and mobile solutions, access to funding to grow their company is a huge challenge. By supporting entrepreneurs with the funds they need to successfully take their products to the market, the grant hopes to grow the number of relevant and local web and mobile applications available to Kenyans,” the press statement added.
