CAIRO: Legal sources said that ousted President Hosni Mubarak's trial will likely be held in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Shiekh, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. The sources said that trying Mubarak in Sharm el-Shiekh could avoid security problems. Mubarak, 83, is due in court on August 3rd and is facing charges related to killing protesters during the 18 days of the popular uprising that ended his 30-year-rule over the country. The head of the appeals court had announced earlier that Mubarak would stand trial in Cairo, however the move to change the location of the trial is likely to anger Egyptians who are continuing protests demanding a speedy and public trial of Mubarak. The former president has been under treatment in the Sharm el-Shiekh International Hospital since April, when the investigations started. Moneer Fakhry Abdul Noor, Minister of Tourism told al-Masry al-Youm newspaper that trying Mubarak in Sharm el-Shiekh would cause a drop in the number of visitors and a drop “in the much needed revenues” that come from tourism.
