Analysts in Nigeria are optimistic that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can avoid the pitfalls that has left much of the sector struggling in terms of service and connectivity in recent months. According to a report published in BusinessDayonline, “innovative wireless platform which promises to open up new revenue generating streams for them by enabling new capabilities well beyond mundane voice and data services,” According to the same report four providers including Globacom, Mobitel, Swift Networks and Direct-on-PC (DOPC) have all launched 4G-LTE networks in the country. It comes as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) continues to push telecom operators and Internet providers toward creating and establishing better infrastructure in order to benefit customers. Lagos-based IT analyst and former NCC official Jamal Taro says that the new wireless Internet structures in the country could be a positive step forward for the country's weak Internet development, but he warns that if companies fail to keep an eye on their networks it could fall victim to shortages and customer dissatisfaction. “What we are witnessing could really go two ways, so let us hope that these efforts are going to establish a framework that gives customers an easier way to get online and that companies are ready to follow through with their promises,” he said. Other analysts told the online newspaper on Monday that increased competition is forcing telecom companies and ISPs to develop new strategies for data. “Telecom companies are reassessing their data strategies to make certain that they generate considerable revenue from the Internet access market in coming years,” Adebayo Oyewole, MainOne Cable chief for marketing and strategy, was quoted by Business Day as saying.
