CAIRO: 800 objects and artifacts are missing from the artifacts stored in the Qantara-East warehouse, said Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud, director of the Central Administration for Antiquities in Alexandria and Lower Egypt, on Thursday. The announcement followed a detailed archaeological inventory of the collection of artifacts stored in the warehouse. The 800 missing objects date back to the Ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Islamic eras. The objects originally came from archaeological sites in Ismailia, north and south Sinai, and the missing objects include clay vessels, bronze coins and wooden arrows, textiles and limestone statues with hieroglyphic inscriptions. Maqsoud said he sent the complete list of the missing artifacts to the public prosecutor and to the Interpol in an effort to help restore them. BM
