Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud, an official from the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said on Thursday that around 800 artifacts from the Pharaonic, Islamic and Roman eras were stolen or damaged during the 25 January Revolution. In a statement, Abdel Maqsoud added that the East Qanatara, Suez Canal and Sinai stores in northern Egypt, were attacked and looted during the revolution. Some of the stolen artifacts were among those initially found by the foreign monument teams working there, Abdel Maqsoud added. Most of the stolen artifacts were ceramic pieces, bronze coins, amulets, arrowheads and blades. These locations are only a few of the Egyptian archaeological sites, including the Egyptian museum, that were looted during the revolution.
