Russia's foreign minister again reiterated his country's condemnation of attacks by foreign powers on the Libyan government. Speaking in Algeria's capital Algiers on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow condemned the “use of force” in Libya, Algeria's APS news agency reported. Russia has reportedly lost millions of dollars from the turmoil in Libya, not being able to sell military equipment to the country, even as Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi attempts to continue a campaign of violence and attacks against anti-government forces in the Eastern part of the country. “We have a common position with Algeria regarding the respect of fundamental right to human life. And, thus, we condemn any use of force” in all the countries, Lavrov said after meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The Russian minister added that his country's position “perfectly tallies with” that of Algeria concerning “the principle of non-interference in countries' internal affairs and the right of peoples to decide about their futures, to be the masters of their destiny and determine the necessary political reforms.” Protecting the Libyan population must be the unique objective of the establishment of the no-fly zone in Libya, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1973, Lavrov said during a joint news conference with his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci.
