Cairo: Secretari-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon arrived in Cairo Sunday. He held meetings with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and his deputy, Yehia el-Gamal, as well as head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, and Foreign Minister Nabil el-Araby. Ki-Moon addressed the UN support of Egypt in this critical transitional period and how to raise awareness of human rights in the country's security apparatus. He also spoke about helping Egypt in achieving greater roles and political participation for women. The talks included discussions of the UN's assistance in fighting corruption and in legislative issues and social security, reported state news agency MENA. Talks also covered the application of a UN resolution imposing a no-fly zone in Libya, as Ki-Moon held talks with Amr Moussa, Secretary-General of the Arab League. Like several western officials, he also visited Tahrir Square, held meeting with members of the coalition of the youth of the revolution, representatives from human rights and civil society organizations, and families of the martyrs of the revolution. On Monday at 3pm Ki-Moon will give a lecture at El-Sawy Culture Wheel. The program, titled “The UN and the Changing Arab World,” will also host Wael Ghonim and other speakers. BM
