Cairo police to return to the streets

CAIRO: Newly appointed Minister of Interior Mansour Essawy said policemen will return to their posts and resume their duties within a week at the most.
The statement followed his swearing the oath of office before Field Marshall Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
Chiefs of security in Cairo and Giza have been instructed to issue orders to policemen for full deployment in the streets as soon as possible, Essawy was quoted by state news agency MENA as saying.
Essawy called on citizens to cease attacks on police and show the spirit of fraternity and cooperation so police can perform their duties.
He also vowed to limit the functions and powers of State Security to combating terrorism only.
