The United States Department of State advised Americans on Sunday not to travel to Yemen and said U.S. citizens in the country should consider leaving. The announcement cited terrorism and civil unrest and said in the event of a crisis evacuations would be severely limited due to “the lack of infrastructure, geographic constraints, and other security concerns.” The warning comes weeks after demonstrations began in the country against the government of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The travel warning also said the State Department has authorized family members of U.S. Embassy staff and non-essential personnel to leave. The State Department said the threat level in Yemen is “extremely high.” BM
