DUBAI: International producer of energy and environment management software has teamed up with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority to monitor and reduce energy and water use across 200,000 facilities. The authority is responsible for 40 percent of the emirate's water and electricity needs and reaches 1.4 million people, reported energy demands of more than 22,000 gigawatts each year. That is enough power to power the Las Vegas Strip for the next 11 years. The small emirate also uses more than 209,000 gallons of water. The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority is using Hara's software to manage a massive sustainability effort. Redwood City-based Hara's software helps the utility prioritize energy-efficiency projects, including replacing windows with high-efficiency windows, installing energy-efficient LED lights, air conditioning units and water heaters, and updating building insulation. Hara said in a statement that managing those reductions through its software will lead to $3 billion in savings, will mean the utility won't have to build eight pollution-emitting power plants and will reduce enough carbon dioxide to equal taking 1.9 billion cars off of the roads in the next 10 years. The authority told Bikya Masr in a prepared statement that “this is part of our efforts to improve our functionality and reduce unnecessary waste.” BM
