Morocco denounces “campaign” by Spanish media
Morocco's government yesterday denounced what it described as an “irresponsible attitude of several Spanish media” in its coverage of the Western Sahara conflict.
In a statement read by the Moroccan Government Spokesman, that accused Spanish reporters of routinely using deceptive procedures, techniques that are unethical, unprofessional and dishonest.”
Morocco considers the purpose of this media campaign is to “seriously manipulate the public opinion in Spain, and to exacerbate the public feeling against Morocco” in what he calls “a real drift of hateful and racist commentary and reporting.”
Britain, Algeria boost counter-terrorism strategy: minister
Britain and Algeria will step up cooperation on security with the creation of a committee on counter-terrorism, a British minister said Friday.
“We face a common threat from Al-Qaeda and in order to counter this there is a need for the nations to work more effectively together…,” said Alistair Burt, the British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, in a statement.
“The bilateral committee is a manifestation of the determination of both the UK and Algeria to confront terrorism,” he said, adding that it would involve cooperation on training and intelligence sharing with a first meeting due to take place in London in two weeks.
Sudan to draw on Tunisian experience in technical education sector
During his meeting, on Friday in Tunis, with the Tunisian Education Minister, Mr. Hatem Ben Salem, the Sudanese Secretary General at the National Technical Education Council,Mr. Abdelmahmoud Othman Mansour, expressed his country's will to draw on the Tunisian experience in technical education the high level of Tunisian skills.
He also expressed appreciation for the high quality and international-standard equipment of the vocational training centers.
The Sudanese official expressed hope that talks within the Tunisian-Sudanese Joint Committee would culminate in a memorandum of understanding providing for the exchange of visits and experiences in this promising field.
Libyan paper pledges loyalty to Gaddafi after row
Libya's most outspoken newspaper reappeared on newsstands on Thursday with a new editor and a pledge of loyalty to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, in an apparent concession to conservatives in the ruling elite.
The print version of the Oea newspaper, part of a media group founded by Gaddafi's reformist son Saif al-Islam, was suspended a week ago in a crackdown by officials that also saw several of the group's journalists briefly detained.
Sudan president performing Haj
Sudanese President Omar Bashir has arrived in the holy city of Makkah to perform Haj, said a Sudanese diplomat on Sunday. Bashir, whose duration of stay in the Kingdom after Haj was not confirmed, is on the pilgrimage with a small team of officials and diplomats.
Referring to the support given by the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including Saudi Arabia, a report published recently said that the GCC has called on the Sudanese people to cooperate constructively to create an adequate atmosphere for the upcoming public referendum that would determine destiny of natives of southern Sudan.
