CAIRO: World Environment Day is coming up on the 5th of June and the Fate of our Earth Series is screening its last documentary before the big day. The Fate of our Earth Series is a collaboration between the Wadi Environmental Science Centre (WESC) and Prince Alwaleed American Studies Centre – AUC. It was started to build enthusiasm for the World Environment Day 2010 taking place on the 5th of June 2010 in Al Azhar Park and to create awareness about various environmental issues of relevance to us in Egypt. The screenings are always followed by a discussion by an expert to analyze and discuss ways by which we can understand and solve the various issues presented by the screened films. The coming screening is Earth Report, which explores the impact of development on the environment and what's been done to protect our planet against it. Case studies that were investigated at depth include the Northwest Passage which was opened for the first time in history, China's emissions jump bypassing the USA and many more. However, the film also explores the glimmers of hope many countries, businesses and individuals are making to further improve the environmental policies and practises out there. In Earth Report, the National Geographic takes the pulse of our planet and explores the state of our planet. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Hala Barakat, the deputy director at the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT) affiliated to the Library of Alexandria. She is in charge of the documentation of the natural heritage program as well as supervising the photographic heritage, folkloric heritage and musical heritage programs at CULTNAT. Dr. Hala is the president of Nature Conservation Egypt (NCE), a non profit organization active in the field of conservation of endangered species and habitats and raising awareness about environmental issues in Egypt. The event will take place on Saturday, May 29th at the Oriental Hall in the AUC Down Town campus and will start at 6:30pm. Eco Options Egypt
