Egypt's PM discusses details of Al-Hussein Mosque renovation

Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly expounded in a Wednesday meeting on the plans to renovate Al-Hussein Mosque in Old Cairo and the surrounding area.
In a meeting attended by the endowments minister, the Cairo governor and other senior officials, Madbouly affirmed that the move is part of a comprehensive plan by the government to develop Old Cairo.
The plan to renovate the mosque will include its facade, courtyard, interior area, dilapidated walls, the wudu' (ablution) area, and ceilings, as well as the expansion of the prayers areas.
After the renovation, there will be three prayers areas that can accommodate 6,000 worshipers in the men's area and 1,450 in the women's, said head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces Ihab El-Far.
The mosque will be supplied with central air conditioning and modern lighting and fire protection systems, he added.
The Al-Hussein Mosque was built in 1154. It is located in Cairo, near the Khan El-Khalili bazaar, and is considered one of the most significant Islamic sites in Egypt.
The mosque is reputed to be the burial place of Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
