Egypt's ready-made garments exports rise 3% in four months – report

Egypt's ready-made garments exports rose 3 percent to $542 million during the first four months of the year from $528 million last year, according to a report.
Last April, the exports increased 4.4 percent to $137 million against $131 million during the same month in 2018, said the Readymade Garments Export Council (RMGEC) in its monthly report on Monday.
"United States captured 55.5 percent share of Egypt's ready-made garments exports during the first four months of the current year, recording $301 million from $258 million during the same period last year, marking a 17 percent growth," the report showed.
On the other hand, Egyptian ready-made garments exports to the European market dropped 8 percent to $162 million against $177 million, while exports to African countries declined 52 percent to $451,000 from $943,000.
"Egypt's ready-made garments exports to Arab countries climbed 21 percent to $29 million against $24 million. Meanwhile, these exports to the rest of the world states fell 28 percent to $49 million to $68 million," the council said.
During the first quarter of 2019, U.S. ranked first in terms of being one of the most important countries importing ready-made garments from Egypt, followed by Spain to seize $51.5 million, 20 percent surge from $43 million last year.
Britain and Ireland ranked third in terms of importing ready-made garments exports worth $30.9 million, 21 percent drop from 39 million in 2018.
"Egypt's ready-made garments exports to the United Arab Emirates jumped 219 percent to $7.6 million during the first four months of 2019, compared with 2 billion during the same period in 2018," the report added.
Belgium imported read-made garments from Egypt worth $9.4 million, up 21 percent growth from $7.7 million last year. Egyptian ready-made garments exports to Canada climbed 53 percent to $7.3 million against $5 million last year.
Egypt's ready-made garments exports to Netherlands also rose 14 percent to $6.7 million from $5.9 million. Kuwait imported ready-made garments from Egypt worth $3.4 million, compared with $3 billion, marking a 11 percent growth.
Croatia imported Egyptian ready-made garments worth $1.5 million, marking a 159 percent increase from $600,000, while these exports to Libya went up by 1,431 percent to $3.7 million versus $200,000 last year.
"Egypt's ready-made garments exports to Germany dropped 4 percent to $28.8 million during the first four months of the current year against $30.1 million last year," the report said.
Tukey seized 45 percent share of Egypt's ready-made garments exports, recording $26.6 million from $49 million, while Italy's imports from these exports fell 29 percent to $18.7 million against $26 million in 2018.
France seized 60 percent share of the Egyptian ready-made garments exports to reach $6.6 million up from $17 million last year.
Saudi Arabia's imports from the Egyptian ready-made garments reduced 30 percent to $8.1 million versus $11.6 million, while Poland captured a 4 percent share of these exports to register $1.5 million from $1.6 million in 2018.
