Egypt's Sisi inaugurates Rod al Farag Axis Bridge today
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 15 - 05 - 2019

President Abdel Fatah El Sisi opens Wedsneday Rod el Farag Axis Bridge in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Presidential Adviser for National and Strategic Projects Sherif Ismail and Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir alongside a number of high-ranking state officials.
A documentary film produced by the Armed Forces Morale Affairs Department was screened to expound the stages of building Rod el Farag Axis Bridge which was implemented by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority in tandem with a number of national companies.
The bridge links areas in northern and eastern Cairo with west Cairo and is meant to streamline traffic and reduce commuting time. It will be parallel to the 26 July Corridor, which links 6th of October City and Sheikh Zayed City with Greater Cairo.
The total length of the Rod el Farag Axis Bridge is 16.7 kilometers divided into five bridges that connect a number of areas. The longest of these bridges is Shobra neighborhood bridge, followed by the Ring Road intersection bridge.
The other three bridges are Warraq Bridge, Western Nile Bridge, and the Eastern Nile Bridge.
The project is one of the most important projects by the National Network of Roads. It will transfer traffic densities coming from east of Cairo to Alexandria Desert Road, Matruh, and al-Alamein highway so that they will not pass through the heart of Cairo.
The project starts from Tere't al-Ismailia Street then passes through Shubra al-Mazalat area to the west of the Ring Road in the direction of Alexandria Desert Road. It is the first huge suspension bridge implemented in Egypt.
The bridge was constructed by 4,000 engineers, technicians, and workers.
Armed Forces Engineering Authority Chief Ihab el Far expressed gratitude for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's attendance of the inauguration of this edifice which was carried out by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority in collaboration with national companies.
The inauguration coincided with celebrations of the 10th of Ramadan victory, he said, noting that national projects in various domains were opened several days ago within the framework of the all-out development plan of Sinai and the canal cities.
In 2014, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi ordered establishing a national roads network at total length of 8,200 kilometers. A sum of EGP 164 billion was allocated for the purpose.
Chairman of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Ihab el Far said the six-lane Rod el Farag Axis Bridge is expected to be one of the tourist sites.
He added that the bridge testifies to the outstanding capabilities of Egyptian engineers, technicians and workers.
He said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's insistence to accomplish such massive mega national projects in a record time would inspire Egyptians to proceed with their efforts to build a better future for the coming generations.
