Tarek Amer Expected To Hold Deputy PM For Financial Affairs Position

Egypt's new prime minister Hesham Kandil met with Hesham Ramez, the managing director of the Commercial International Bank (CIB) and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Egypt; Abdel Salam Al-Anwar, chairman of HSBC Bank Egypt; Ziad Bahaa El-Din, former chairman of the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority; and Tarek Amer, the chairman of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE). Sources said Kandil held talks with them aiming at the appointment of one of them as deputy PM for financial affairs.
Ramez, Bahaa El-Din and Al-Anwar refused to hold such position, but Amer did not say whether he will approve it or not, sources added. None of them were asked to hold positions of the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt or the minister of investment, sources noted.
Sources expected Amer to approve holding such position after he had said earlier he will quit as the chairman of NBE.
Kandil Earlier met with Dr. Atef Radwan, dean of Zagazig University's Faculty of Medicine who is nominated for the health minister; Dr. Tarek Wafik, economy expert and urban planning professor who is nominated to head up housing ministry; Mohamed Hazem Mohamed, electronic engineering professor at Cairo University who is nominated for the post of communications minister; Mohamed Rashad, engineering professor at Cairo University (specializing in roads and bridges); Mostafa Mosaad, member of Morsi's presidential campaign who is nominated for the post of education minister; Hatem Abdel-Latif, arts professor who is nominated for the post of social affairs minister; Essam Khalifa, supervisor at the irrigation ministry; Aly Fahmy, owner of the Radio Shack chain of electronics stores and professor of information systems who is nominated for the post of communications minister; Tarek Abdel-Latif, architecture professor; Mohamed Yousry, chemical engineering professor atCairo University who are nominated for housing minister.
