Mobily KSA Adopts Ericsson's Evolved Packet Core Solution
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 20 - 05 - 2012

A cost-effective and reliable Packet Core solution is the key to both delivering services of the quality users expect and providing the ease of use and transparent charging that drives uptake. With this in mind, Mobily has signed an agreement with Ericsson whereby the world's leading provider of communications technology and services will supply Mobily with an Evolved Packet Core solution that supports 2G, 3G and 4G communications.
Evolved Packed Core is a flat, efficient, IP-based core network architecture, which supports the next generation of mobile broadband. Combined with LTE access networks, Evolved Packet Core will provide a whole new experience for Saudi users, with true broadband access virtually anywhere and a rich variety of multimedia applications.
Abdul Aziz Al Tamami, Mobily's Chief Operations Officer, says: "The decision to adopt Ericsson's Evolved Packet Core solution was a natural progression for us. We've had a longstanding relationship with Ericsson and are well aware of the level of services and return on investment the company can offer as we continue to work toward ensuring that our subscribers are given access to the latest in telecommunications technology." The main driving forces behind Evolved Packet Core are the rapid adoption of mobile broadband, as well as the requirements of new multimedia services and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. Mobily has recognized that these factors call for increased capacity and improved performance in the core network, and the new solutions are set to allow more than 20 million subscribers in Mobily to experience the benefits of an enhanced telecommunications network across the Kingdom.
Ali Eid, President of Ericsson, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, says: "Mobily will introduce the industry's most advanced Evolved Packet Core solutions. These innovative solutions are designed by Ericsson to provide reliability and scalability giving Mobily the flexibility needed to meet the fast-growing demand for mobile broadband services in the kingdom." We're glad to be taking our partnership with Mobily even further and supplying them with this latest technology, which is set to boost efficiency and prepare Mobily's network for a smooth migration as part of realizing the Networked Society vision in the kingdom."
