Russia's Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) and Egyptian-Russian University signed a cooperation agreement of joint training of specialists for the nuclear industry in Egypt, said the TPU's president Peter Chubik.
Chubik added that under the terms of the agreement, the Egyptian university will be training specialists for three years, including teaching them Russian. They will then continue their studies at the TPU for 2.5 years, which has a serious scientific base and the only training nuclear reactor in Russia.
In addition, the possibility of academic exchange between the universities is being considered.
The agreement was signed by Egypt's Minister of Higher Education and Science El Sayed Ahmed Abdel Khaleq and representatives of local universities.
According to Chubik, the university already has experience in similar projects with Chinese universities. "Here we have a certain edge over the programs that we are conducting with our Chinese partners because our partner is the Egyptian-Russian University, where the studying Russian is a must," - he added.
During its two-day visit in Tomsk, the Egyptian delegation has visited Tomsk Polytechnic University on Monday.
The agreement is a testament to the growing level of cooperation between Russia and Egypt in furthering Egypt's nuclear program.
On other side, president of the Egyptian-Russian University Sheriff Helmy Soliman stated that "It's no secret that Rosatom is constructing an NPP in Egypt, and Egypt needs qualified specialists for when the construction is finished. I know that the TPU is one of the best universities in this field of nuclear power, and I this is something I heard about from Rosatom'.
