Egypt will announce next May a board reshuffle in the country's telecom regulator, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA). According to Khaled Negm - Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the new board of directors for NTRA will be announced within the second week of May, 2015. Last March, Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab tasked newly-appointed minister Negm with the formation of a new board for the NTRA since its term of office will expire soon. In Egypt, the term of office of NTRA's board of directors expires every two years. The ministry is currently in talks with its affiliates to suggest nominations to the NTRA's board of directors, minister Negm told Amwal Al Ghad on Monday. NTRA's board of directors includes representatives of the Council of State, the National Security Authority, ministries of Defence, Interior, and Finance, as well as the Radio and Television Union, the Egyptian presidency, Administrative Control Authority, in addition to three public figures, two experts, and a representative of NTRA's Employees. The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Egypt was founded in 2003 according to the Telecommunications Regulation Law as a national authority to administer the telecommunication sector. The scope of the NTRA's work covers issues related to transparency, open competition, universal service and protection of user rights. The NTRA acts as an independent arbiter for ICT sector stakeholders. Hesham El Alaily is currently the Executive President of NTRA.
