Cairo Court to rule Today on Final Case against Mubarak's Interior Minister

A Cairo criminal court will rule on Thursday in the last case facing a powerful Hosni Mubarak-era interior minister after he was cleared of corruption and murder charges in separate cases.
Former interior minister Habib El-Adly is charged with illicit gains amounting to EGP 181 million by using his political influence to amass a fortune disproportionate to his sources of income.
Earlier this month, Adly's lawyer successfully demanded that the court allow further hearing of defence in the case, claiming that new evidence exists which proves the defendant's innocence.
This is the last trial El-Adly is facing.
In February, El-Adly along with ex-premier under Mubarak Ahmed Nazif, were cleared of other corruption charges over a deal to import license plates at an excessively high price.
Several Mubarak-era figures, including the ousted president himself, have been found innocent of charges of corruption as well as involvement in the deaths of protesters during the 2011 revolt that ended Mubarak's 30-year rule.
In November 2014, El-Adly was cleared of murder in a retrial alongside and Mubarak in which the court dismissed killing charges against the ex-president.
