Sami Abdul Qadir, general manager of Lafarge Egypt said the total investment cost for transitioning the company's plant to work with coal estimated at EGP700 million. Abdul Qadir added that Lafarge directed within the last period to start the testing regarding the transition for working with coal in the light of the weakness of the current energy resources and its effects on the firm's operating rates, the firm's energy confined with 40%, but the environmental ministry didn't grant the company the final approval for this transition. He explained the firm is currently working with only two lines from the total 5 with the failure to obtain so far on the approval of the Ministry to start a gradual shift for using coal, expecting that this will reflect on the firm's future profits.
