Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum on Thursday announced a new oil discovery in the Gulf of Suez by the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO). The find follows the successful drilling of the North East Ramadan Crystal exploration well (NER-1X), which is expected to begin production within days, with an estimated output of around 3,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The ministry said the discovery was aided by advanced Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic technology, which revealed previously inaccessible geological structures beneath the seabed. Drilling and early production were carried out using the existing Al-Fanar platform, owned by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), avoiding the need for a new facility and reducing operational costs. GUPCO is a joint venture between EGPC and the UAE's Dragon Oil. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: Y.Yasser
