Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is intensifying efforts to enhance oil production in the Gulf of Suez by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and expanding exploration activities. With an investment budget of $585 million for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) aims to reach a production rate of 70,000 barrels per day (bpd) through drilling three exploratory wells, projected to add 8,000 bpd, and three development wells contributing an additional 3,360 bpd. One of the key technologies driving these efforts is OBN (Ocean Bottom Node), a state-of-the-art seismic survey technique that has played a crucial role in identifying new petroleum reserves. GUPCO is also advancing infrastructure modernisation efforts, including upgrading production lines, turbines, and gas compression units to ensure production continuity while maintaining environmental safeguards. The company's North Safa project, a key initiative, is progressing rapidly, with the second phase of its production facility expected to add 2,500 bpd to overall output.
