Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate by videoconference on Wednesday in a ceremony marking a major step forward in Egypt's long-planned El-Dabaa nuclear power project, the Egyptian presidency said. The event will include the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the plant's first unit and the signing of a nuclear fuel purchase order — developments seen as crucial to moving the project towards operation. The ceremony coincides with Egypt's annual Nuclear Energy Day on 19 November, which commemorates the 2015 agreement with Moscow to build and operate the facility. The plant is central to Egypt's strategy to diversify its energy mix and expand electricity generation as demand grows. The presidency emphasised that the joint participation of the two leaders underscores the endurance of Egyptian-Russian cooperation, drawing a line from Soviet involvement in constructing the Aswan High Dam to Russia's role in Egypt's civilian nuclear ambitions today.
