Union leaders in Britain have accused the British government of cheating hundreds of thousands of low-paid workers out of a £250 pay rise as the 2012 budget has been described as a budget “for millionaires." Britain's biggest public sector trade union, Unison, has accused British Chancellor George Osborne of “fooling" hundreds of thousands of low-paid carers, school dinner ladies, cleaners, and teaching assistants across Britain out of a pledged £250 pay rise.. Unison has said that over a year ago Osborne promised a £250 pay rise to the public sector workers who earned less than £21,000 a year. However, the union has maintained that the low-paid workers have not received the pledged pay rise. “It is a disgrace that George Osborne has tried to fool local government workers and the public into believing he cared enough about the hardship of low pay to announce he would cushion the impact of the Government pay freeze," said Heather Wakefield, the union's head of the Local Government Service Group, according to the Huffington Post UK. Osborne was also criticized last month when he presented his 2012 budget to the House of Commons. Labour leader Ed Miliband described Britain's 2012 budget was as a budget prepared by millionaires “for millionaires" because income tax for those earning over £150,000 was cut from 50p to 45p. The Guardian reported Sunday that British Prime Minister David Cameron has appointed the controversial Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder as a special adviser on social class to rescue his party from being described as a “party of the rich."
