Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed a $40 million contract on Tuesday with Turkish company HIPER Plastic to establish a recycling and packaging project in West Qantara Industrial Zone, the authority said. The project, the first of its kind in West Qantara, will be built in two phases on 100,000 square metres and is expected to create 700 direct jobs. It will use advanced technology for recycling polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (DOTP), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), with zero emissions, the authority added. "The project reflects our commitment to attracting integrated industrial clusters to West Qantara while promoting environmental sustainability," SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien said on the sidelines of the signing. He noted that the zone has been upgraded with world-class infrastructure and facilities, aiming to establish West Qantara as a regional and global hub for textile and ready-made garment manufacturing. The integration between industrial zones and the authority's ports, he added, ensures access to international markets. The industrial zone has so far attracted 41 projects across industrial, service, and logistics sectors, with total investments of $1.0935 billion, creating 56,565 direct jobs and covering 2.572 million square metres. Gamal El-Dien emphasised the importance of attracting further investments from Türkiye and other countries to this strategic zone. Muhlis Çağlar, chairman of HIPER Plastic, signed the contract on behalf of the Turkish company during Gamal El-Dien's promotional tour of Türkiye, the authority said.
