Egypt's Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk met European Union Ambassador to Cairo Angelina Eichhorst on Sunday to discuss strengthening cooperation in food security and domestic trade, the ministry said. Farouk reviewed government plans to secure strategic commodities, improve the food subsidy system, and roll out a new unified card scheme aimed at enhancing subsidy efficiency. He said the ministry's agenda also prioritises modernising internal trade and digital transformation to bolster food security and support sustainable economic growth. The minister stressed that partnership with the EU is vital to developing supply chains, ensuring product quality, and opening new markets for Egyptian exports. Eichhorst said the EU views Egypt as a regional hub linking diverse markets and reaffirmed the bloc's commitment to supporting Egypt's efforts to modernise supply systems, which she said would benefit consumers directly while boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.
