Egypt's ministry of higher education and UNESCO signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday to strengthen research and academic collaboration in architecture and urban planning, the Cabinet said in a statement on Tuesday. The agreement, signed during the launch of the International Academy of Architecture and Urbanism in Egypt's New Administrative Capital, was inked by Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour and Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education. It aims to promote joint research, postgraduate programmes, and student and faculty exchanges in areas including heritage conservation, sustainability, and emerging technologies. The deal also paves the way for establishing a new UNESCO Chair in Egypt and enhancing international academic networks. Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly attended the signing ceremony, which was also witnessed by ministers, ambassadors, and senior university and research officials. The Cabinet said the partnership is designed to position Egypt as a regional hub for architectural and urban studies while supporting applied research and innovation in sustainable development.
