Egypt and Cyprus agreed on Tuesday to speed up plans to connect Cyprus's Cronos natural gas field to Egyptian energy infrastructure by 2027, a move aimed at facilitating gas exports to Europe through Egypt's liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy and Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasiou met on the sidelines of the Gastech 2025 conference in Milan to discuss the project, which both sides described as strategically important. Talks also covered the Aphrodite field and recent technical consultations held in Cairo. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing joint projects, saying closer cooperation would benefit both countries and bolster Egypt's role as a regional energy hub. The meeting followed a visit by an Egyptian ministerial delegation to Nicosia last week, which focused on strengthening regional cooperation in energy and gas.
