Egypt exported more than 1.9 million tons of citrus fruit this season, making it the country's top agricultural export, the Cabinet said in a statement on Monday. Fresh potatoes ranked second with more than 1.3 million tons shipped, followed by onions with over 250,000 tons, the statement said. Exports of beans, both fresh and dry, totalled more than 222,000 tons, while grapes came fifth with more than 180,000 tons. Other key exports included sweet potatoes, mangoes, fresh tomatoes, garlic, pomegranates, strawberries and guavas. The Cabinet said the strong performance underscored the competitiveness of Egypt's agricultural sector in global markets and its contribution to boosting foreign currency inflows and creating jobs.
