Egypt's petroleum ministry said on Sunday that two people were killed and six others injured after an incident at a natural gas pipeline in the Abu Sultan area of Ismailia Governorate. The incident occurred at 18:40 p.m. local time (1540 GMT) when a loud sound was heard at the pipeline's valve complex during routine maintenance preparations, the ministry said in a statement. Emergency teams were dispatched and inspections showed the launcher trap had detached from the line at a welding point. The ministry added the section of the pipeline had already been emptied of gas before work began, meaning supplies were not affected. The injured were transferred to Fayed General Hospital. The ministry said it was investigating the incident and extended condolences to the victims' families. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: Y.Yasser
