Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares have agreed on the grave risks of the current situation in Gaza, warning against Israel's expanding military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories and the unprecedented humanitarian deterioration that has reached famine levels. Abdel-Aty said Israel's crimes had crossed all limits. He stressed the need for concrete and effective measures by the European Union to force Israel to abide by international law and conventions. For his part, Albares said his call came within Spain's keenness to hear Egypt's perspective on developments in Gaza, especially ahead of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Denmark later this month. Abdel-Aty also reviewed the proposed ceasefire deal, which is based on elements put forward by US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. He noted that the ball is now in Israel's court, stressing that the only plan on the table stipulates a 60-day ceasefire, during which negotiations would be held to reach a comprehensive settlement, end the war, release a number of hostages and detainees, and ensure the flow of humanitarian and relief aid.
