Egypt's Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah El-Din Moustafa discussed potential collaborations in military and civilian manufacturing with Bulgaria's Ambassador in Cairo Deyan Katratchev, according to a Cabinet statement on Sunday. Salah highlighted the ministry's dual role: meeting the needs of the armed forces and police while leveraging excess production capacity for civilian products and national development projects. He expressed interest in benefiting from Bulgarian expertise across multiple industries, particularly in line with Egypt's broader vision to localise advanced technologies and expand industrial capacity through global partnerships. The minister noted Egypt's strategic position as a gateway for exporting products to regional and African markets, making it a promising destination for global industrial investment, according to the statement. Katratchev praised the diversity and longstanding nature of Egypt-Bulgaria relations and affirmed the mutual interest in boosting bilateral ties, especially in the defence and industrial sectors. He noted that both countries possess substantial economic and manufacturing potential. The discussions also covered preparations for the upcoming Egypt's Defence Expo (EDEX 2025) set to take place from 1 to 4 December 2025, with interest in Bulgarian companies participating. The Bulgarian ambassador also extended an invitation to Minister Salah to attend the HEMUS 2026 defence and equipment exhibition, scheduled to be held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, as stated in the release.
