Egypt's Cabinet has approved Wednesday a draft presidential decree to allocate state-owned land for the development of seawater desalination plants as part of a long-term strategy to bolster water security through 2050. The decision, made during the Cabinet's 51st meeting chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, designates several plots of land across coastal governorates for future desalination facilities. These include approximately nine feddans in Ras Ghareb and 2,000 square metres in Marsa Alam, both in the Red Sea Governorate; 235 feddans near the Suez Canal in Suez Governorate; 63 feddans in Borg El Arab, Alexandria Governorate; and 15 feddans in Alamein, Matrouh Governorate. The move supports Egypt's national water strategy, which includes plans to build dozens of desalination plants to address growing demand and climate-related water scarcity.
