Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has refuted claims that the state's entire digital ecosystem is solely dependent on the Ramses Exchange, as per an official statement. The national network is a complex and interconnected system of exchanges implemented over many years, supporting over 120 million mobile users and 15-20 million fixed-line internet households. The ministry clarified that Minister Amr Talaat's recent remarks about internet performance after the Ramses Exchange fire were misinterpreted and taken out of context, according to the announcement., Talaat, speaking to the House of Representatives' ICT Committee, praised Egypt's internet infrastructure for its resilience and operational efficiency during the incident, despite experiencing higher-than-normal traffic levels. MCIT stressed that Talaat's remarks were made from a technical perspective used by professionals to assess network efficiency in response to incidents impacting infrastructure performance. However, Talaat pointed out that services continued after the Ramses Exchange collapse, demonstrating that the network is not solely dependent on it. Discussions over the internet were able to proceed, even more efficiently than usual, despite the increased workload. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
