Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has broken ground on a $70 million household glassware manufacturing project by China's Deli Egypt Glassware in Ain Sokhna, the authority said in a statement on Wednesday. Deli Egypt Glassware is part of China's Anhui Deli Household Glass Co Ltd. The factory will span 120,000 square metres in the TEDA Egypt Industrial Zone and is expected to generate 500 direct jobs. Around 80 per cent of its output will be exported. The project will be developed in two phases, with the first set for completion in the second half of 2026. SCZone Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Din, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony, said the project highlights growing industrial cooperation with Chinese investors and reflects Egypt's efforts to localise manufacturing and attract export-oriented industries. "The SCZone has become a preferred destination for international investors, driven by improved infrastructure, world-class facilities, and streamlined business services," he said. Gamal El-Din added that 2025 has been designated the "year of inaugurations," following three years of strong momentum. The SCZone has attracted $8.5 billion in investments across 297 projects since 2022, including 121 deals worth $4.4 billion in the current fiscal year ending June 30. The ceremony was attended by senior SCZone officials, Anhui Deli Household Glass' Chairman Weidong Shi, Director Le Yu, and representatives from TEDA Egypt.
