Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) on Wednesday signed an $18-million contract with Turkish firm Ulusoy Tekstil to establish a yarn and spinning factory in the Qantara West Industrial Zone. The self-financed project will span 35,000 square metres and is expected to create 855 direct jobs. It will produce various types of yarns—including fibre, carpet, hand-knitting, tricot, and home-use crochet yarns—in addition to the production of garments. Around 80 per cent of the output will be exported, with the remaining 20 per cent to be allocated to the local market. According to SCZone Chairman Walid Gamal El-Din the project reinforces Qantara West's position as a regional hub for yarn and ready-made garment industries. It brings the total number of projects in the zone to 24, with combined investments of $661.5 million and 34,455 direct job opportunities. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
