Eng. Abdullah Fawzy, head of Egyptian Co. for Metro Management and Operations, has revealed that the Cairo metro system has been hit with losses of EGP700 per day due to the theft of cables and isolate connections during the last 10 days. Fawzy ,pointed out that the stolen cables are the high-pressure control cables, noting that it ranging between 20-50 m , noting that this phenomenon has been increased during the last period especially in the first line metro. Fawzy has explained that the total losses reached EGP4.4 million during the curfew time from August 14th to 24th, noting that the daily losses in the first 3 days of curfew range between EGP 200.000-300.000, while the losses have been jumped to EGP 500.000 daily from the beginning of the last week and the metro will work normally except for the train movement that will be halted from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am. He also noted that the total daily halted trips within this period reached 500 trips in the three lines, 200 trips for the first line, the same for the second line and 100 trips for the third line. Fawzy has further expected that the decline of losses between EGP200.000-300.000 again as the Cabinet decided to shorten the curfew by two hours , so the metro will be closed at 9:00 pm, illustrating that the last train from the first line "Marg-Helwan" starts its trip at 8:00 am, while the last train of the second line "Shobra- Giza" and the third line "Ataba- Abbaseya" will move at 8:30 pm.
