Egypt's civil aviation authority said on Friday that the country's airspace remains secure and flight operations are proceeding normally, despite heightened regional tensions following military escalation in the Middle East. In a statement, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said air traffic is running smoothly in accordance with international safety standards. The ministry added that it is closely monitoring developments through Cairo International Airport's main operations centre, in coordination with aviation authorities in neighbouring countries, some of which have temporarily closed their airspace. As a precaution, Egypt raised its alert level at all airports to accommodate potential rerouted or emergency landings by international flights adjusting their paths due to regional disruptions. Nine foreign aircraft have already landed at Cairo International Airport for refueling before continuing their journeys, the ministry said. EgyptAir, the national carrier, has suspended three flights bound for Baghdad, Amman and Beirut until airspace in those destinations reopens. Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny visited the Cairo airport operations centre, EgyptAir's Integrated Operations Control Centre, and the air traffic control tower to oversee operations and ensure continuity of service.
