China confirmed the trade agreement announced by US President Donald Trump on Thursday, emphasising the importance of both parties adhering to the agreement and stating that China consistently honours its commitments. The agreement, established following a phone call between Trump and China's President Xi Jinping last week, marks a delicate truce in a trade conflict between the top two global economies. "China has always kept its word and delivered results," Lin Jian, a foreign ministry spokesperson, said at a regular news conference. "Now that a consensus has been reached, both sides should abide by it." The Trump-Xi phone call resolved a standoff that arose shortly after a preliminary deal was made in Geneva. Subsequent talks in London added substance to the agreement to reduce retaliatory tariffs. The Geneva deal stalled due to China's restrictions on minerals exports. In response, the Trump administration imposed export controls on semiconductor design software, jet engines, and other goods bound for China. Attribution: Reuters Subediting: M. S. Salama
