Egypt's Minister of Agriculture Ala Farouk met with Romania's Ambassador to Cairo Olivia Toderean to discuss opportunities for enhancing bilateral collaboration in agricultural investment, equipment manufacturing, and strategic crop trade. Farouk highlighted that Egypt depends on Romania as a key source for imported wheat, with approximately one million tons of Romanian wheat being imported to Egypt each year, as per a Cabinet statement. Egypt seeks to enhance agricultural investment and mechanisation collaboration with Romania, leveraging its expertise in manufacturing and after-sales services as per the executive plan signed during the previous joint committee meetings. Farouk stressed the significance of producing Romanian agricultural equipment in Egypt in collaboration with the Egyptian private sector, citing the strong reputation of the Romanian industry in the region. He also highlighted Egypt's role as the gateway to the African market and emphasised the potential for successful partnerships in the Middle East and Africa through Egyptian-Romanian cooperation. Todorean said Romania would soon send its Minister of Agriculture to Cairo, accompanied by private sector representatives, to discuss boosting exports and partnerships, particularly in grain trade.
